CHANDIGARH: Students of various colleges and Panjab University campus held a meeting to condemn the implication of Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and Harpreet Singh Shahi in false case under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. They formed the Students Action Committee to pursue their cases who are students of Department of Law of Panjab University.

Mr Rajesh Jindal and Mr Rajinder Singh Saini members of the executive committee of the Students Action Committee in the joint statement said it was highly deplorable and unjustifiable that the police had implicated innocent students in false cases. They criticized the unsympathetic attitude of the university authorities. “The authorities know the truth and by stay aloof from the proceedings of the case they are not watching the interests of the students” they said.

They said the charges leveled against them were baseless who were taken in custody from their houses on December 19 and not from the university campus on December 20. The main charge against them was they were propagating the ideology of Panthic Committee which they said was far from truth. Their innocence they added was proved when they were granted bail. The committee demanded an enquiry into the arrest of the students. The committee urged the administration not to play with their career and drop cases against them.

The committee appealed to the Governor Gen O.P.Malhotra and Mr Baleshwar Rai to intervene and save the students from further harassment.
