BHOPAL, India: The BJP leader, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, demanded setting up of a commission with a Supreme Court Judge, to conduct an enquiry into the “Churhat lottery scandal” in which, he alleged the Union Communications Minister, Mr. Aqjun Singh, had collected crores of rupees.
Mr, Vajpayee told newsmen here that the BJP felt there was a prima facie case for an enquiry and any attempts at “whitewashing” it ‘would further strengthen doubts.
Quoting from a copy of an Official report by the Small Scales and Lottery directorate, Madhya Pradesh, to the state finance secretary, Mr. Vajpayee said there Were many “irregularities and illegalities” committed in the Churhat lottery case but the State government and the Union Government ‘were trying to cover it up.
