From News Dispatches AMRITSAR: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr, Sarabjit Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the killing of Jagir Singh (21) of Senkhra village in an alleged encounter with the police.

The order follows a representation by panchayats of three villages followed by a demonstration and dharna outside the DC’s office. Maintaining that the youth was innocent several villagers alleged that the youth was shot dead in fake encounter on the night of September 18.

The widow of Jagir Singh married only two months ago was a moving sight. Clutching her broken bangles she sobbed her in-laws and parents were too poor to support her. The sole support of both families has been murdered shiz wailed.

Jagir Singh was returning home after watering his fields when a police jeep pulled up and took him away say eyewitnesses soon after shots were heard. A group of villagers rushed to the spot but could see only a trail of blood. The following day they went to the police Station in Majitha but drew a blank. The parents on insisting were shown blood stained clothes which turned out to be those of Jagir Singh.

The police story is that a terrorist was killed in an encounter in Katrai Kalan village. A police party was attacked by four men of whom one Jagir Singh was killed while three managed to escape.

The FIR no 114 adds that a large quantity of arms were recovered from the spot. And since the body could not be identified it was cremated the next morning without postmortem examination.
