NEW DELHI (PTI): India’s population will reach 1.4 billion by 2025 surpassing China as the world’s most populous country, says a UN report.

A United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) report says India will replace China as the largest population in Asia which has 595 of the world’s population. By 2025 India’s share will go up from 27% of 29%, whereas China now with 37% will have 31%.

India with an estimated 879.5 million population in 1992 has an overall projected growth rate of 1, 9% during 199095. The urban growth rate during the same period will be 2.9%.

The end result is that by AD 2025 1,393.0 million Indians will be part of the global population.

The report says that health and expenditure have a low priority as far as expenditure is concerned in India and at 1.6% and 2.5% it is the lowest after Pakistan.
