NEW DELHI: Third world countries will have to guard against “technical colonialism” which is being promoted in the garb of intellectual property rights by the developed north, Prof. M.G.K. Menno, former minister said here Nov 12.

Owing to the so called intellectual property rights, a lot of development will remain with the north, he said.

Prof. Menno was addressing a seminar On South economic and technical cooperation being held here by the international association of economics journalists.

Commenting on the extent of south cooperation, Prof. Menno said so far there has been a great deal of rhetoric on the subject. This has been particularly so with regard to science and technology.

With the commonality of situations they find themselves in, the south countries need similar solutions to solve their problems. For this South-South cooperation is crucial, He said.
