NEW DELHE: The question rose/by Mr. LK. Advani and the reply given by the Govt appear to have become a glaring example of the misuse of powers which the police got with the amendment of the recent act to curb “terrorism” in Punjab. ‘The misuse became apparent ‘when the president of BJ.P. Mr., ‘Advani disclosed in the upper ‘house that Baroda, a main city in state of Gujarat, has earned the distinction of becoming the top city of the country in misusing the recently amended national security act to beat the opposition.

‘According to Mr. Advani, the Baroda police have so far arrested 245 persons, under this black act (this act becomes white for all parties, including opposition when it is used against Sikhs), Out of these detainees 145 persons have already been bailed out by various courts.

Mr. Advani made an unsuccessful attempt to get an assurance from the treasury benches that the recently amended act will not be misused. But the Govt refused to oblige him by stating that the effectiveness of this act will be curbed iff any obstacle is created in the process of using this act in Punjab and other places.
