CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO) and the Punjab Sikh Lawyers Council today warned that they would launch an agitation on March 23 if the police excesses against women in Punjab did not stop by them.

Announcing this decision Mr. Ds. Gill General Secretary of the PHRO and Mr. Navdeep Singh Bittu, General Secretary of the Punjab Sikh Students Organization said police officials who had committed violence against women had been identified. They demanded that these police officers should be immediately suspended. Criminal cases should be instituted against them.

The Punjab Nari Manch has sent a memorandum to the Punjab Governor, Mr. SS. Ray listing atrocities committed by police against women.

The memorandum submitted ‘on the international women’s day identified police officials involved in criminal action in the State.
