NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar said the government was willing to talk to the militants in Assam and Nagaland if the initiative came from them.
Intervening during question hour in the Rajya Sabha (upper house) Chandra Shekhar termed as baseless incorrect and totally mischievous to allegations that RAW (research and analysis wing of the cabinet secretariat) was involved in training the Bodo militants in Assam.
He said RAW was in no way involved in the nation’s internal matters. If there was a security threat to the country from outside the agency would draw the attention of the domestic intelligence organisations.
Shekhar said the government would soon come out with a programme of economic development to see that the regional disparities ended. He said there should be no killings. The government had been forced to ban some organisations because of their militant activities he said.
