Lake Buena Vista, Fla. — The movie ‘‘Places in the Heart’’ is, by a small margin, leading the pack of Academy Award nominees for Best Picture of 1984, according to a recent survey.

More than 2,400 visitors to Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center were asked: “Which film do you think should win this year’s Oscar for Best Picture?”’ Slightly more than a quarter, or 27 percent, of the respondents chose “Places in the Heart’ for best picture, while 22 percent voted for ‘‘The Kill ing Fields,’ 19 percent for ‘“‘Amadeus,”’ 17 percent for ‘‘Passage to India” and 15 percent for “A Soldier’s Story.”

Last year Epcot respondents chose ‘‘Terms of Endearment” by an overwhelming margin, and the film went on to win the award for best picture. This year’s survey, however, points to a much tighter race.
