NEW DELHI: The passport fee is likely to be hiked to Rs.200 if a recommendation to this effect by the Passport office is approved by the Indian Parliament.

An increase in the passport fee, which is at present Rs.50, was cone of the suggestions made at a one day conference of passport officers called by the Minister of State for External Affairs, Eduardo Faleiro, and last week.

The conference also suggested further simplifying the application forms and procedures for issuing passports.

The conference emphasized the need to establish more passport offices throughout the Country and increase the staff strength from 1500 to 2000 to cope with the 26.1 lakh

Applications pending with  the departments.
