NEW DELHI: An eight member committee to work out details of an administrative, political and legal arrangement for devolution of power in tribal areas of Assam, was set up at the fifth round of tripartite talks on the Bodo issue here on Wednesday.

The representatives of the Bodo tribal accepted the proposal for the small committee, which was made by the federal and state government at the last round of talks on March 9.

While the federal government’s representative, labor minister Ram Vilas Pawan, reiterated that a separate state of Bodoland was not feasible, the leader of the Bodo delegation, Upendra Nath Brahma, stuck to his stand for “Bodoland.”

The committee, after touring tribal areas of Assam and studying the constitutional and historical aspects and problems faced by the tribal, will submit its report at the sixth round of talks to be held here on July 2.
