Chandigarh: Pakistan’s proposal for acquiring sophisticated electronic weaponry from the U.S.A. at the cost of Rupees 410 crores poses no threat to India, the chief of Army staff Mr. AS. Vaidya stated at Ahmednagar in Maharashtra on Jan, 4th. He told newsmen according to U.N.I. that it was absolutely useless to spend huge amounts on such counter measure weaponry as it would be unsuitable for use on Indo Pak Border because of indifferent weather conditions.

Referring to the increased use of electronic weaponry in the Indian Army he said that it will not

affect manpower. Human assistance is necessary to operate such equipment. Referring to action against the army men who had deserted their posts during the operation blue star Gen, Vaidya said several cases have already been decided and barely hundred cases remain to be decided. In reply to a question he said that one can’t claim without proof that neighboring countries of Pakistan and China help terrorist in Punjab with arms though weapons bearing Pakistani and Chinese markings were recovered from Golden Temple Complex during the operation Blue Star.
