ISLAMABAD (PTI): Amid serious political crisis Pakistani president Farooq Ahmed Leghari dismissed the NWFP government last week and suspended the provincial assembly by imposing governor’s rule.
As per the presidential order the proclamation would remain in force for two months.
The dismissal of the NWFP government came in the wake of and confidence motion moved by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) against Shabbir Shah Government ruling in the frontier province.
Political analysts here Say the decision would fuel an increasingly tough tussle between chief minister Shabbir Ali Shah and Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto’s supporters who had been trying to topple his government.
It was the first time since tribal uprisings in the 1970s that governor’s rule had been imposed in any of Pakistan’s four provinces.
