NEW DELHI: Indian president R Venkataraman Tuesday said the interests of India and Pakistan were complementary, not conflicting or competitive.

Welcoming the new Pakistani high commissioner M Bashir Khan Babar, Venkataraman said the ties that bound the two countries were stronger than the differences that appeared to “divide us”.

He said “we cherish the warmest sentiments of friendship towards your country and the people.”
