NEW DELHI: The crime branch of Delhi police, which is investigating the old Delhi riots, Noy 20 said that seven cases of rioting, arson, murder and attempt to murder were registered against 71 persons arrested from the riot torn areas.
Crime branch Chief R. Tiwari said the number of arrests, including those charged with violating curfew regulations has raised to more than 1000.
Some arms, including country made weapons and swords, were seized from the trouble makers in these areas, he said.

Meanwhile, Delhi unit of BJP Nov 20 alleged that police was indiscriminately arresting innocent persons from the curfew bound old Delhi areas just to show off its secular credentials and balance the number of arrests from among Hindus and Muslims.
In a statement here, Madan Lal Khurana, the Delhi unit president, said this police “cover up operation” had caused tension in the area.
Khurana said the police had utterly failed to prevent the riots and apprehend the conspirators. “That is why police officers are shy of facing a judicial inquiry,” he said.
Over seven people died in clashes in the Old Delhi areas following clashes between two groups last week.
