EDMINTON, ALBERTA: Vaisakhi was celebrated at a rich and colourful function by the Sikh community here on April 16.

Over 3,000 Sikhs attended the function at which such prominent Canadians as Mr. Ross Harvey, Member of Parliament, Mr, Grant Mitchell, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Pam Barrett, MLA, Mr. Gerry Gibean, MLA, Ms. Marie Laing, MLA, Ms. Christie Mjolness, MLA, Mr. Terry Keyko, Assistant Minister Culture and Multicultural Education, Mr. & Mrs. Leroy Chahley, the Chief of Police, Edmonton, attended.

Ms. Pam Barrett, MLA and House leader of Alberta New Democratic Party, was dressed in Salwari Kameez madea very forceful impact on the audience. She has been a very strong supporters of the Sikh community.

Mr. Grant Mitchell is an MLA from the liberal party and enjoys strong respect in our community.

Mr. Ross Harvey MP., presented the greetings from the Canadian Parliament.

The Mayor of Edminton His Worship Derry Cavanaugh presented a flag of the city to the community.

The keynote address was presented by Dr.S.M.M Qureshi PhD, professor of Political Science at the University of Alberta.

The Bhangra dance by the males and the Giddha dance by ladies were amongst the highlights of the evening which also included a musical program.

A balet based on the famous love story of Sohni Mehival was another extraordinary event of the evening.
