CHANDIGARH: A long dreary winter is coming to an end in Kashmir but the spring seems to be far behind, There is something odd and weird about the situation in the valley, something ominous. ‘These observations have been made by the political correspondent of Indian Express, Mr. H.K. Dua in a dispatch from Srinagar. On the Surface, he says the situation seems to have improved in Srinagar and other violence affected towns like Anant Nag & Kaddle, Day’s events have left behind a trail of communal bitterness and plenty of political uncertainties. The last few days of violence in the state is bound to have a bearing on the life in Kashmir as well as on the present political set up in the state Measures underway to ensure security of the minority community that became the object of Feb 4, 1986 violence in the valley particularly in the Anant Nag district. The minority community of the Kashmir Pandits have suffered discrimination under the successive regimes in the valley according to the correspondent but the recent violence has left them in a state of shock. In the wake of violence, a situation has developed in the State where the rumors are the order of the day.
Whispering Campaigns, insinuatous and remarks are thrown by politicians and others and accusing fingers are being pointed in all directions.
Communal tensions apart, atmosphere in the state slightingly conspiratorial,
Antinational and antisocial elements are most commonly seen in Srinagar and elsewhere in the valley. Everyone claims hostility towards these elements and accuses others for being sympathetic to them.
