WASHINGTON: U, S. officials reportedly have obtained spy satellite evidence indicating that Pakistan is working on plans to conduct its first underground nuclear explosion if neighbor India conducts a similar test.

Satellite photographs show that a mountain has been excavated for the blast in the southwestern province of Baluchistan near the border with Afghanistan; The Washington Post quoted intelligence officials as saying.

Former President George Bush cut off military and economic aid to Pakistan in 1990 after a nuclear test site was discovered in the Chagai Hills.
