NEW DELHI: Plain speaking by a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member, Mr. Vijay Kumar Malhotra a pat for the National Front Government from the CPI(M) leader, Mr. Somnath Chatterjea and uproarious scenes over certain remarks made by a couple of Congress (I) members marked the resumed debate on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The observations of the BJP member and the CPI(M) leader which were put forward on different political wavelengths, aroused attention in political quarters, as these two parties provide the much needed parliamentary support to the Government.

Mr. Somnath Chatterjea said that the efforts made so far by the VP Singh Government were indeed most commendable. He also praised the Government’s search for national consensus on major issues. He said the Government had introduced a spirit of cooperation and understanding in its dealings with the other political parties.
