It is reported that the assassination of block Congress (I) general Secretary Raj Pal Kadd at FatehGarh Churian was due to the fact that Mr. Kadd had allegedly “identified” AISSF activists and workers and guided security forces personnel while they were conducting raids on hideouts. He was often advised by his patty men not “to offer an affront to Sikh youths by being outspoken.”

A four member committee constituted by the Punjab Govt. has recommended the release of more than 2,000 persons including most of those captured by the Army during operation ‘Bluestar’ at the Golden Temple Complex. The Committee is reported to be of the view that a large number of those rounded up by the Army at the complex were ‘innocent pilgrims’ and that there was no substance in the charges leveled against them.

The Indian Prime Minister said at a news conference on return to Delhi that he had found once again that India and the Soviet Union “had similar views on many issues” While he continued to disagree with the United States on many points.
