MADRAS: Certain new regulatory rules for hockey will be introduced from June 1 this year according to a decision taken by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) at its meeting in Brussels.

Mr. Muneer Sait, a member of the Competition Committee of the world body, who attended the meeting told PTI here today that the four rules that had been changed were: goalkeeper forbidden from lying down to stop the ball as penalty comer drive is made, chipping the ball

forbidden during play, goalkeeper allowed to mise the stick above his shoulder for stopping a penalty stroke or while play is on ‘and three substitutions instead of the two hitherto in all tournaments.

The FIH has also introduced points system to decide the winner in single pool competitions. In case of teams securing equal number of points and drawing level even after quotient, there will be system of tiebreakers between the teams and no sudden death will be applied.
