PATIALA: Ace star Navjote Sidhu has denied reports that he will play for Bombay for the Ranji Trophy.

Talking to this correspondent at his residence here today, he said, “Punjab is my state. I love it more than anything and will play for Punjab”.

When his attention was drawn to a news report that his name figured in the list of probable announced by the Bombay Cricket Association, he said he ‘was not aware of it adding “I will not play for any other state”.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Cricket Association is likely to announce its team within next few days.

When contacted Mr Inderjit Singh Bandra, president of the Punjab Cricket Association, said that Navjote had not sought permission to play for Bombay as a professional. (Ranji rules now permit states to seek the services of two professionals from outside the state).
