NEW DELHI: Lala Amarnath, the former Indian captain, denied that he had approached Raj Singh for the inclusion of his sons, Surinder and Mohinder in the team against Sri Lanka in 197576.

Calling it as a “figment of imagination” of Raj Singh, Amarnath said that had the desired he could have spoken to CG Gopinath and JW Ghorpade the then selectors for his sons inclusion as these two selectors had represented India due to my selection,

“I detest playing cricket under recommendation nor do my sons” Lala told newsmen here on Thursday and added: “I ‘was covering for (we dailies then, my sons were employed and I did not need the money through my sons playing for India.”

Dismissing it as “afterthought” Lala said it was in poor taste that Raj Singh should have gone on record saying that the issue of Mohinder’s selection could have been sorted out had “Mohinder met him before issuing his statement.”
