AMRITSAR: The district magistrate Amritsar Karanbir Singh Sidhu has prohibited all kinds of movement within 500 meters of the Indo-Pakistan border from 8 p.m. to 5.a.m. daily in effect from July 2 till September 1. However this order will not be enforceable on the G T Road running from Wagha barrier to Amritsar.

The DM took this step in view of the movement of undesirable elements on the Indo-Pak border which is likely to endanger public peace and the security of India.

This order is not applicable to the police Army BSF CRPF Home Guards personnel and staff of the Central Excise and Land Customs in uniform on duty.

The D M further prohibited holding or taking part in processions meetings demonstrations or assemblies of five or more persons in entire Amritsar district from July 3 to September 1 for a period of two months.

The district magistrate banned processions and demonstrations in view of the prevailing circumstances in the district in view of the militant activities. He has directed hotels and restaurants to close down by 11 pm and halwals dhabas refreshment shops tea shops ice cream shops pan and beedis shops snacks shops bakeries and other eatable shops should close down by 10 pm.

He has directed liquor vends and wine shops to bring down their shutters at 9 pm barber and video cassettes shops at 8 pm and 11 other shops to close at 7:45 pm

Cinemas and video parlors had been directed to close at 9 pm. And marriage processors on reads are prohibited after 10 pm.

This step has been taken by the district authorities in view of the gravity of prevailing law and order situation in the district.

He also prohibited the use of loud speakers in general and shouting of objection slogans and playing of objectionable records for a period of two months.

The D M banned movement of all buses carrying passengers from 7:30 pm daily to 5 am from Amritsar district.
