BANGALORE: Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda on Sunday indicated that the Government would bestow more powers on States in certain spheres soon, and hinted at changes in laws relating to urban land ceiling and land acquisition. Speaking at a function of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry here, he said decisions on giving more powers to states would be announced in a week or two but did not specify the areas envisaged for it. Saying that mere slogans and speeches would not help, Mr. Gowda called for quick decisions to accelerate the country’s progress, and said ever since his Government came to power; the Foreign Investment Promotion Board had cleared 380 projects envisaging an investment of $ five billion.

Speaking at a function to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the Agriculture College at Hebbal near here, Mr. Gowda said an ambitious program had been taken up to provide easy access to information about technologies, global market prices and supply, to help farmers to exploit globalization of agriculture.
