KARACHI: Two more areas in Karachi were placed under indefinite curfew and troops rushed there following armed clashes between the rival groups resulting in the death of three persons including two women Thursday, according to doctors and police.

The death toll went up to 61 and over 150 wounded during the last three days of violence in Karachi, according to the doctors at four government hospitals. However the official figure remained at 41.

Balidia town in district west and Malir extension in district east were placed under curfew following armed clashes between the workers of PPP and Muhajir Quami movement (MQM).

The life in non-curfew areas returned to normal but there was a very thin attendance in the government and private offices, commercial houses and business centers as two thirds of the population lives in the curfew bound areas and there was no relaxation in the curfew Thursday.
