NEW DELHI: The Indian athletes are to participate in several international meets Giving a detailed schedule of their participation abroad, the Amateur Federation of India (AAFI), President, Kalamadi said here on Saturday that Indian Suresh athletes would take part in an international meet at Sri Lanka which will be held from June 15 to 18.
Kalmadi said that Indian athletes would also take part in the IAAF World Cup for walking events which will be held at Spain on May 27, For this meet the IAAF will send free travel tickets and bear boarding and lodging expenses. Earlier also IAAF has been extending this facility for one reason or another AAFI has not been sending athletes for the meets. For the Seoul World Cups Marathon two years ago IAAF had sent the tickets but the
Government had not cleared athletes.
Lalit Bhanot secretary of AAFI said on Saturday that the Government had on principle agreed to send Indian athletes for various international meets.
The other meets for which Indian athletes are likely to go are: IAAF International Invitational Meet at Prague June 21; 10 member team to GDR June 15 to July 15; 12 member team to Italy team for Malaysian National meet at Kuala Lumpur from July 14 to 16; International Meet at Beijing October 8; EAA invitation meet at Ostrava Czechoslovakia on July 29; 5th Asian Inter City Meet at Hong Kong December 15 to 17 and an International Marathon at Mauritius on June 25.
A few middle and long distance runners will also be sent to England on the advice of British coach Hary Wilson.
