MADRAS: The Moopanar-led Congress faction which had broken away from the TNCC to forge an electoral alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has asked the Election Commission to register it as the “Tamil Nadu Makkal (people) Congress” (TMC), according to party sources here, ‘The sources said, the party would seek an appropriate symbol from the commission after the registration.
Earlier, Mr.G.K Moopanar and his’ close confidants, including Union Ministers P, Chidambaram and M. Arunachalam, held discussions on the modalities of contesting the elections in Tamil Nadu, ranging from launching 8 new outfit to seeking a common Symbol for their group, sources in the Moopanar camp said.
The Moopanar group, has decided to fight the April 27.and May 2clections in the state in alliance with the DMK.
Meanwhile, the two ministers did not respond to queries from newsmen who wanted to know whether they had quit the Narasimha Rao ministry or not.
