CALCUTTA: Mohun Bagan defeated holders East Bengal 76 via sudden death in a marathon 150minute clash of the titans in the final of the eighth All Airlines Gold Cup Football Tournament at the Salt Lake Stadium here recently.

The sudden death rule was applied as the scheduled 90 minutes, extra time and the tiebreaker failed to produce results.

At the end of scheduled 90 minutes and extra time the teams were locked 11. The tiebreaker ended with the archival locked 33 with both teams scoring two of the five shots. In sudden death, the rival teams scored three goals each till Tarun Dev of East Bengal missed and Bagan’s Knshanu Dey found the net, giving his team the much aspired win.
