AMRITSAR: In a fresh bid to refurbish their sullied image the militants offered Rs.25000 to the mother of a boy who was killed by the car-bomb which injured the minister of state for public health Maninderjit Singh Bitta and killed eight others.

According to family sources two young boys approached the mother and asked her to open a bank account where  they would deposit at least Rs 25000 They also offered their condolences and regretted the in a dement killing of her son.

The four organizations operating under the umbrella of Dr. Sohan Singh had reportedly taken responsibility for the abortive bid on Bittas life.

Bitta was admitted to a local nursing home on May 9 but was shifted by a special plane to the PGI at Chandigarh on May 12 The militants had reportedly warned the nursing home not to treat Bitta.

Meanwhile a few ultra-sound centers here have placed notices that they are not conducting sex determination tests.
