MICHIGAN: The progress of the Sikh Studies Chair at the University Of Michigan, Ann Arbor, was reviewed here after the Bhog ceremony on September 10, 1988. Promoters of the chair and friends of Dr, Virinder Singh Grewal had assembled at his residence on the occasion of the Bhog ceremony which is an annual feature with the Grewal family.
It was disclosed that the university had received cash contributions of $1,50,000 and pledges worth $6,00,000. Sikhs are required to contribute one million dollars to establish’ a full-fledged chair.
It was also disclosed that Punjabi class has already been started and eight students were currently on the rolls.
The speakers emphasized the need for developing research centers for the proper perception of the Sikh religion and correct interpretation of the Guru’s message. ‘Western World need to be made aware of the significance and relevance of Sikh philosophy for a greater harmony in mankind,
The speakers also called upon the Sikhs living in America and Canada to contribute generously for the Sikh Studies Chair to put it on a sound financial footing. All contributions are tax deductible.
