SONEPAT: The Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, will convene a meeting of the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana soon after his return from Malaysia, to resolve the Satluj Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue.
This was disclosed by the Haryana Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal.
He said that while he was keen for an early completion of the SYL canal but it was Punjab which had delayed the work under the excuse that the conducive atmosphere does not prevail in the state.
He assured that Haryana would get its due share of water.
Bhajan Lal reminded the people it was during his tenure that 95S of the canal was completed but when Bansi Lal took over as the chief minister, he took all the panches and Sarpanchs of Haryana to show them the progress’ of SYL’s construction in neighboring Punjab. He assured the people that he would make the canal functional.
He said also lamented the opposition for criticizing him over the signing of the historic Yamuna Waters ‘Accord, He said that Hathnikund barrage would be completed within two and half years to replace the Tajewala head workers over Yamuna whereas Renuka and Kishau dams would be completed in five years’ time. ‘He said that to generate additional power of 2650 mw in the state new projects had been got sanctioned. He criticized the Maharashtra government for its decision of signing an agreement with a private company for power generation and added that such a step would create confusion in the minds of other investors. He has a meeting with an Israeli company to set up power project in the state would be convened on August 9.
