LUDHIANA: Simranjit Singh Mann has urged Lok Sabha speaker Rabi Ray to review and revoke any illegal executive instructions issued by you or your predecessor’ in wearing or carrying the 3 foot Kirpan in Parliament.

In a letter to the speaker, Mann said he intended to take oath as MP during the Monsoon session of Parliament. He would carry his Kirpan, he said, Mann wrote that he had waited in vain for the past four months for a reply to his letter of March 11. The silence proves that the speaker had no constitutional grounds to stop him from carrying his Kirpan into the Lok Sabha, Mann asserted.

Mann’s 16 page letter says Sikhs can by law wear a kirpan in any place. Mann said the Sikhs after many Morcha’s had won an exemption from the British Indian Arms Act of 1878.
