COLOMBO (PTI): The vicious attack by militants of the liberated Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on an army camp at Katupotha on vavuniya-mannar road in northwestern Lanka was led by women cadres of the LTTE unit-19 of the Tamil Tigers the island reported

Forty-six Lankan soldiers including some officers were killed and a dozen wounded in the predawn attack by the LTTE on the army camp. The militants took away a large stock of weapons at the army camp. The newspaper said Tiger women cadres were in the forefront during the attack on the army post quoting survivors of the incident it said the LTTE raiding party was 400-strong and mostly consisted of women cadres.

It said that according to unconfirmed reports army casualties could be higher The report said that some of the women cadres killed soldiers with knives before removing their weapons. The attackers first fired mortars at the camp.
