Dear Sir,

On the Baisakhi Day of Samat 1822 Bk. (April1765) the Sikhs decided by a “gurmata”’ at Amritsar to take possession of Lahore. All opposition was brushed aside in a week and they were the masters of Lahore on_ the morning of April 17, 1765. Thus the Khalsa stood supreme in the Punjab. The Sikhs looked upon the achievements as a mark of Guru’s special favors and proclaimed it as such in all humility in the inscription on their coins saying: “Deg o tegh o fateh o nusarat bedirang yafat az nanak, Guru Gobind Singh.”

Sincerely,

Avtar Singh Brar (rohde)
