NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka has accused the Tamil militant group, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) of treachery and holding about 800 policemen hostage, some of whom have reportedly been killed, as India said there was no question of mediation.

A press release issued by the Sri Lankan high commission here on the latest situation in its northern region said there had been a concerted plan by the LTTE to provoke hostilities as it had been exhorting money, storing food and other supplies and mining access toads for some time.

The LTTE had acted with “some treachery” and caught the Govement unawareness. “In fact several installations such as police station and army posts in the north had been earlier withdrawn.
