Amritsar — S. Prem Singh Lalpura, Acting President of Shromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee described the release of eight Akali leaders as a step in the right direction. “But to create proper climate, it is imperative that the central government should immediately release all Sikhs detained on different pretexts and fabricated charges,’ he said. He also demanded the release and reinstatement of all Sikh soldiers who had left their units in the wake of army attack on the Golden Temple. He emphasized that the minimum that the government should do is to institute judicial enquiry into holocaust against Sikhs in November, 1984, repeal draconian laws, withdraw army from Punjab and pay full compensation to the victims in order to establish its bona-fides.
