Polite but firm is Lakhmir. Lakhmir did his bachelor’s in engineering from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh. He came to U.S.A. in 1969 and did his master’s in engineering from Sunny Buffalow. Then he joined Bell Telephone New Jersey and worked for two years. He moved to Stockton after serving Tulare, Kern, Kings, Yuba and Sutter counties as engineer, he shifted to San Joaquin County. At present he is director of air pollution control.

Tennis is his second love. He is regular at the West Lane Racquet club and thus keeps himself fit. He is active at Gurdwara Sahib and was secretary of Gurdwara Sahib for two terms. He is a good organizer. He prefers to remain in the background.

His wife Birinder Grewal is a teacher. She took classes on honorary basis for 56 years. Soon she adapted to the society here and accepted the payment. She started the Sunday school at Gurdwara Sahib Stockton. They are proud parents of Raman and Anu.

Grewal is member of number of professional organizations:

  1. California Air Pollution Control Officers Union;
  2. Environmental Concerns Committee San Joaquin;
  3. Housing Appeals Board City of Stockton, are some of them. Grewal is staunch environmentalist.
