LAHORE Pakistan: Pakistani Security Forces opened fire on curfew violators who burned old tires and attacked religious buildings shooting dead one man as clashes continued between Moslem sect’s police said.
So far 11 people have died in two days of clashes between majority Sunni and minority Shiite Moslems in several Pakistani towns.
The shooting was the first in Lahore since an army supervised curfew was imposed on almost half of the city. Small groups of people violated the curfew in several other areas of Lahore burning old tires on roads and attacking at least two Shiite religious buildings but dispersed as troops and police chased them witnesses said.
Police said they arrested 15 people for curfew violations taking the total of arrests in Lahore to 80 since yesterday.
The city of four million people was tense today as soldiers and police patrolled the restricted areas on foot and in trucks and fire engines.
