NEW DELHI: The Union Home Ministry on Sept.25th served a charge sheet on Ms. Kiran Bedi, India’s only Magsaysay Award winning police officer, asking why action should not be taken against her for the irregularities she allegedly committed during her tenure as the Inspector General (Prisons) at Tihar Central Jail. Ms. Bedi has been asked to respond either by accepting or refuting: the charges within 10 days.
But it is apparent that Ms. Bedi will not take the Ministry’s salvo lying down. When contacted, she said she had already rebutted most of the charges earlier, when she was functioning as IG (Prisons). However, she declined to elaborate how she would tackle the charge sheet.
