Christian community of the ‘State following the murder of a Sister Superior in the coal producing town of Margherita in Tinsukia district last week. According to the police, two unidentified assailants who were hiding in the convent, entered the mother superior’s room in the dead of the night and killed her with a knife.

Tinsukia superintendent of police R.K. Singh said that the assailants escaped with the deceased’s wristwatch. The incident took place at 2 a.m, “Robbery seems to be the motive behind the murder,” he said.

A spokesperson of the United Christian Association, condemning the act, contested the police claim. “Who will believe that a person has been killed for a wristwatch?” he said, adding that the growing attacks on religious institutions were a pointer to the sorry state of the law and order situation in the State.
