AMRITSAR: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has reportedly started an independent inquiry into the kidnapping of an Akali Dal leader and human rights a6 h Khalra, from Amritsar.
“The informed sources said here last week that a team of two officials of Human Rights Commission led by Surya Kant, an officer of DSP rank, ‘was at present in the city of inquire about the circumstances of disappearance of Mr. Khalra, and the involvement of police officials and his (Khalra’s) whereabouts.
The human rights officials last week went to the residence of Mr. Khalra where they recorded the statements of Mrs, Paramjit Kaur, wife of Mr. Khalra and certain eye witnesses in the case. The family members of Mr, Khalra also reportedly supplied names of police officials allegedly involved in the “kidnapping” incident.
It is learnt that one of the eye wits had disclosed the names of police officials to the team members, Mt can while, the local police last weak reportedly inquired from many quarters about Rajiv Singh living in Amritsar who has been listed as Key eyewitness in the Khalra kidnapping case currently being heard by the Supreme Court.
It is learnt that police had become panicky after receiving information Frat Rajiv Singh had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in the capacity to an eyewitness. He had also mentioned the names of police officials allegedly involved in the case.
Mr. Kirpal Singh Randhawa acting general secretary of Human Rights wing of Akali Dal apprehended that police might terrorize the eyewitnesses; He reminded that on last hearing Supreme Court had passed orders, restraining police from interfering in the judicial process.
