AMRITSAR: The central secretary of the human rights wing of Akali Dal, Jaswant Singh Khaira, last week expressed fear of being “eliminated” by the Punjab government and police for his recent act of exposing the police regarding the alleged disposal

of unclaimed bodies. In a press statement, he claimed that a responsible leader of the Congress legislature party had cautioned him personally last week in this regard. He was told that police officers were outraged on his opening of the issue which they considered as the “digging up of old graves” and had decided to eliminate him in case the inquiry proceeded further.

“If the Punjab government and the police think that by eliminating me, they can jeopardize the inquiry into the disposal of 25,000 unclaimed bodies, then I cannot help pitying them since all facts concerned had been presented to the human rights organizations all over the world,” he said.

Khalra refused to name the MLA who had given this information to him.
