NEW DELHE: The police arrested 13 members of a Moslem group responsible for a bombing and sabotage campaign aimed at establishing an independent Islamic republic in the northern Indian state, news reports said.
‘The Press Trust of India quoted Police Director General M.M. Khajuaria as saying the group called itself “Almujahid,” Urdu for “Holy War Fighters.”
He said the group had operated in the Moslem dominated Kashmir Valley for the last two years and had staged several bombings in which one man was killed and seven others injured.
Khajuria told reporters Almujahid planned to use violence to instigate tensions between the state’s minority Hindus and majority Moslems, who would be urged to fight for a “Islamic Republic of Independent Kashmir.”
