NEW DELHE: Intervention from top Govt quarters has forced Dr. Karan Singh to resign as India’s ambassador to the United States according to informed sources. Dr. Karan Singh had joined the coveted post about 6 months ago amidst World Sikh News reports of his allegiance to Hindu fundamentalism. Dr. Singh was evidently assured by circles close to external affairs minister IK Gujral that the former would not have to resign.

It is reliably learn that Gen. J. S. Aurora, a distinguished Sikh soldier, is likely to replace him soon,

Dr. Singh had made a public statement following the installation of the VP Singh ministry that he represented the whole of India and not just Congress I and its Govt.

The pro-Moscow daily Patriot revealed last week that New Delhi had dropped several hints to Singh to resign.

Significantly Dr. Karan Singh mentioned in his resignation letter the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. This may be interpreted as his veiled threat to cause further problems to the Govt of India in view of his influence in the Jammu region.
