JALANDHAR: Akali Dal (Badal) Suffered a major setback when almost the entire Jalandhar (urban) “Unit and about six circle presidents resigned in protest against the inclusion of Kuldeep Singh Bhatia in the Akali Dal (Badal) Working committee announced by Badal on August 1. Talking to newsmen here last week, Gureharan Singh Narula president Of the Jalandhar urban unit said some cases were pending the court against Bhatia and therefore he, along with others, has resigned in protest against this action of Badal.

 Narula released a signed list of the members who resigned from the party. They include Gurdev Singh, Pritam Singh and Hardeep Singh advocate and Inderjit Singh (both general secretaries), Gurdeep Singh, joint secretary, Manjit Singh, chief organizer and Gurbakshish Singh finance secretary.

The sudden rise in prices of raw rubber has put the rubber industries of Jalandhar in trouble. The prices on last week’s reached an all-time high of R.s 34.50 per kg in Kerala against the floor price of R.s. 21.50 fixed by the government, According to Avnish Arora, general secretary of the Jalandhar rubber goods manufacturers as so for the last few months. But, the sudden sprut in prices had surprised even the speculators.
