MOGA; Justice G.R. Majithia of the Punjab and Haryana High Court during his four day visit of Faridkot inspected district and sub Jails at Muktsar and Moga and found many persons detained unnecessarily. He asked the authorities to release them.

This was stated by Justice Majithia while speaking at a reception accorded to him by the Moga Bar Association on his first visit to his native town last evening.

The Judge assured the advocates that he would strongly recommend the establishment of the Additional District and Sessions court at Moga to cope with the heavy workload there. It was a policy matter and a decision would have to be taken by a panel of Judges. He also assured them that a judicial complex would also be constructed along with the administrative complex.

In a memorandum to Justice Majithia the Association expressed grave concern about torture of innocent people in police stations. It also brought to his notice that under trial prisoners was being produced in court in handcuffs despite the Supreme Court direction against the practice.
