NEW DELHI: The prospects of holding crucial elections in Jammu and Kashmir was discussed at a meeting between the Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and the State Governor Gen (retd) K.V. Krishna Rao, even as group of minister’s handling the Kashmir affairs also took stock of the situation in the state.
Gen Krishna Rao had a 40-45 minute meeting with the Prime Minister, and another meeting with 3 group of Minister’s, on Kashmir
The meetings came in the wake of simultaneous dialogue initiated by the Home Minister, S.B. Chavan, with prominent national opposition parties and by Gen Krishna Rao with state parties in a bid to sound them on the feasibility of holding elections in the state when the term of President’s Rule expires on July 16,
The meetings have assumed significance as the Center has to take the vital decision whether or not to have elections in the state by July 18 as any further extension of President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir requires amending the Constitution.
