NEW DELHI: A far from fit both physically and mentally India went down rather tamely to Japan 02 in their opening Group B preliminary league match of the third Intercontinental Cup for the women’s Hockey which began at the Shivaji Stadium here.

Victims of the Indian women’s Hockey Association politics which resulted in coach Satinder Walia leaving the team just before this tournament began. The Indian girls looked an aimless lot most of the time.

Though they put up enough fight to con cede only one goal in the first session. The change of ends found them a tired lot. A fact confirmed by the forcing the Japanese as many as six of their 10 penalty corners with one of them yielding the second goal.
