NEW DELHI: Former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President, Mr. Mohinder Singh Gill, July 8 said that senior leader; Bal Ram Jakhar must resign from the Congress Working Committee (CWC) instead of demanding that the party president, Mr. P.Y. Narasimha Rao, should step down. Addressing a press conference here Monday, Mr. Gill said Mr. Jakhar, should not have attacked Mr. Rao, since he himself “had not been accepted by the people. In fact, Mr. Rao should have expelled Mr. Jakhar for having stated that he planned to contest from three constituencies in the recent Lok Sabha elections.”

 

Mr, Gill ‘said he had introduced Mr. Jakhar to the Congress and sponsored his name for the post of minister in the Giani Zail Singh cabinet. “For a man who is himself tainted on account of the hawala case and earlier deals, it does not speak well to seek the resignation of the party president.”

The Punjab leader said Mr. Jakhar should make public the list of assets he had submitted to the CBI in the hawala case, Mr. Jakhar’s comment, which appeared in the press Monday, were reported to have been in an interview with a newly launched television network.
